While new screenshots about Apples upcoming OS 10.5 "Leopard" begin to surface (build 9A527), I start to wonder whether the Apple engineers need some private lessons in perspective imaging. Parallel lines on a surface converge in the same
vanishing point in perspective images or 3D-renderings, easy as that.
So what? Well, in Leopard, Apple gave the Dock a three dimensional look. Simple, slope the left and right edge, maybe add a shadow and reflection, done.
But do _not_ add a three-dimensional separator which has a blatant different vanishing point, that makes absolutely no sense!
See the image below, I marked the vanishing point of the new Dock separator. Note that the right edge of the Dock is almost parallel to the right edge of the separator – the vanishing point of the left and right edge of the Dock would be somewhere above the main screen while it actually should be on the same horizon as the vanishing point of the separator in order to make sense perspectively.
I don't ask for a perfectly three dimensional Dock, but if Apple decides to make one, please make it at least nearly correct. The way it is in the current build, it's just plain stupid.

Speaking of
Vanishing Point – that movie is great! ;)
Rafael: Thank you very much, I was having a huge headache to solve the very same problem!
